MARYVILLE, Mo. Junior forward Wes Dreamer shined in his return from an ankle injury as No. 1 Northwest defeats Truman State 92-47 at home Nov. 20 to increase their win streak to 16 games going back to last season.

Dreamer led the Bearcats in scoring with 23 points as senior guard Diego Bernard added 14 points while leading the team in assists with seven.

Dreamer said this is a different team compared to the last three years in an interview with Dreamer and KXCV.

“There’s something special about this group of guys,” Dreamer said. “With Bennet (Stirtz) coming in, it’s going to help us out a lot. We’re all unselfish, we don’t care who scores, we just want to win.”

Freshman, Bennet Stirtz dribbles the ball toward the paint for an easy bucket.

The game started off quick for the Bearcats, who found themselves leading 7-0 in the first couple minutes of the game, behind 5 quick points from Dreamer, who scored 17 in the first half. Northwest continued to score and built a large 17-point lead by the end of the first half, with the help of seven made three-pointers.

The second half wasn’t any different as Northwest continued its lights-out play. The Bearcats outscored Truman State 47-19 in the second half and shot an impressive 66% from the field and 51% from three.

Freshman guard Bennet Stirtz posted a career-high 18 points. Stirtz has helped the Bearcats fill a missing spot this season with the loss of Trever Hudgins a season ago. In an interview with KXCV, he said it helps to go against a great defense in practice every day.

“I come in with the mindset of getting other players involved,” Stirtz said. “It helps going up against Isaiah (Jackson) every day. It also helps that they don’t have a scouting report on me yet.”

Northwest has continued its stellar play this season sitting at a record of 7-0 despite the loss of Hudgins to the NBA.
